Wernick Method Bluegrass Jam Class (taught by Joe Ross)

Wernick Method Classes teach real bluegrass jamming!  Hands-on learning in large and small groups

No jamming experience necessary …. You will be jamming the first class!

All bluegrass instruments welcome …. Full ground rules and etiquette of typical jams

Intermediates welcome, and given added challenges  … Friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable teaching

Gentle tempos! Mistakes expected! …. Music/tab reading not needed or used

Ear skills taught and emphasized, as in real bluegrass … Learn many bluegrass standards

Singing not required, but encouraged and taught … Soloing not required! “Faking” solos taught

How to lead songs and how to follow new songs  … How to find melodies, fake solos, sing harmony

Group and individualized instruction on backup skills … Understanding, low-pressure, time-tested teaching

Do you qualify? It’s easier than you may think! … If you play guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, or dobro… you can be part of a bluegrass jam.

Only requirements – be able to:

Tune your instrument (electronic tuning devices welcome) and

Change smoothly between G, C, D, and A (or the notes that work on bass and fiddle)

Tuition: $195 for 6 sessions

$10 off through Aug 7. $10 discount for family members; discounts can be combined. $50 deposit reserves your spot. 50% refundable for cancellations more than one month in advance.

You will be sent the full set of of student materials as soon as you register.

Safety Protocols: Until further notice, all Wernick Method classes will be conducted either outdoors or in very well-ventilated indoor spaces.

Taught by Joe Ross, a multi-instrumentalist who has performed and recorded since the 1970s in bluegrass and other styles, with such bands as the High Mountain Ramblers, Sagegrass, Cold Thunder, Umpqua Valley Bluegrass Band, Sunny Sky Boys and Tidewater Twang. Joe teaches mandolin, banjo, guitar, bass and is also a well-known music journalist and reviewer. His teaching approach is easy-going, individualized and confidence-building. He emphasizes the enjoyment, fun and camaraderie of making music together.
