SUMMARY:Jacob Jolliff Band at the Ruins
DESCRIPTION:Jacob Jolliff is one of the world’s premier contemporary mandolinists. In 2011\, he graduated from Berklee College of Music\, having studied there on a full scholarship. The following year\, in 2012\, he won the USA’s National Mandolin Championship in Winfield\, KS. A fixture of the bluegrass scene\, he has performed and collaborated with Béla Fleck\, Tony Trischka\, Michael Daves\, Grant Gordy\, Wes Corbett\, and Alex Hargreaves\, to name a few. Additionally\, throughout his 20s\, he toured as a member of the groups Joy Kills Sorrow and Yonder Mountain String Band. Currently\, his focus is on his own ensemble\, The Jacob Jolliff Band—one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groups on the scene today. They’ve released three albums\, the most recent of which\, “Instrumentals\, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries\,” dropped in May 2024. The band plays a combination of complex original instrumental music and vocal repertoire that spans from trad bluegrass to unlikely pop covers. Improvisation and the ensemble interplay are at the forefront.

They also give the impression that they really enjoy playing together. There’s plenty here to please both bluegrass traditionalists and lovers of modern American folk music\, especially for those with an appreciation of great vocal harmony\, as well as masterful instrumental playing. Many of John’s dozens of original instrumentals have become popular favourites for sessions and covers\, such as the jam standard Saltspring. John has three critically-acclaimed solo instrumental albums and has recorded on many other projects\, including the Grammy-winning True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe. John also plays Latin-based jazz and choro music with highly regarded finger-style acoustic guitarist/composer John Miller; the duo has released three superb albums.

Award-winning guitarist Jerry Ashford & mandolinist Joe Ross play a lively variety of Hillbilly Jazz\, Classic Country\, Bluegrass Hoedown\, and Western Swing music. Special guests often sit in with them on bass\, fiddle\, banjo and/or vocals. \nOpen every Saturday\, year-round\, 9 am -1 pm. Produce\, plants\, artisan crafts\, soaps\, jams\, hummus\, kombucha\, handmade pottery\, local honey\, jewelry\, food\, baked goods\, woodworking\, candles\, soaps\, spices\, flowers\, all produced in & around Douglas County. Local producers come together every Saturday at this family event that promotes thinking locally and supporting your neighbors. Umpqua Valley Farmers Market was voted 2021’s Outstanding Large Market by the Oregon Farmers Market Association. That’s impressive\, considering that Oregon has 113 Farmers’ Markets in 136 locations\, 5900 vendors\, and 3.4 million visits!
