SUMMARY:Fog Holler at the Hybrid
DESCRIPTION:Fog Holler is a bluegrass band with an edge. What gives the band that edge is a topic of hot debate. For some\, it’s musicianship – these bluegrass cats shred. For others\, it’s the songwriting\, traditional in style but topical in substance. Sometimes\, they undeniably snare people with the squad factor – folks see 4 grown adults in matching monochrome\, and they get curious. The secret\, according to Fog Holler\, is simply that they write and play bluegrass in 2024\, with similar intention but very different context from the genre’s originators. Inspired by a range of influences from The Stanley Brothers to Buck Owens to Meshuggah\, Fog Holler breathes fresh life into well worn forms like the murder ballad and the power waltz. Described by two-time Grammy Award Winner Cathy Fink as “The next generation of the many shades of grass”\, Fog Holler’s captivating tunes and coordinated outfits are quickly enthralling longtime bluegrass fans and newcomers alike. \nDoors at 7pm\, Showtime at 8pm / $15 ADV\, $20 DOS / 21+

SUMMARY:Josh Cole Band Bluegrass Matinee at the Laurelthirst
DESCRIPTION:Josh Cole has been playing bluegrass in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. It started in the late 90s\, when he first heard “Midnight Moonlight” from Old and In the Way. That moment forever bonded Josh to bluegrass music. He went on to serve as President of the Oregon Bluegrass Association and continues to host “Music From the True Vine” on KBOO-FM\, the longest running bluegrass show West of the Mississippi. \nJosh’s influences include Ralph Stanley\, Larry Sparks\, and Bill Monroe\, many of whom are featured on the Josh Cole Bluegrass Show\, his podcast with nearly 200 episodes of traditional bluegrass recordings. Josh has played in dozens of bands\, along with running his own hard-driving bluegrass band for nearly two decades. That’s why hometown fans have lovingly nicknamed him “The Elvis of Portland Bluegrass.” \nFree show. All ages.

SUMMARY:The County Fools at the Muddy Rudder
DESCRIPTION:If you were to bump into a member of the County Fools in the real world – walking the streets of Portland\, kicked back on a barstool\, or wandering in a hayfield – you might think to yourself “Hey\, these are some good timin’ guys. There’s not a serious thing about these fellas. They’re just foolin’ around!” But friend\, you’d soon come to realize that there is one thing that The Fools take very seriously: the great tradition of Bluegrass music. \nThe County Fools’ sound and sensibility is deeply rooted in that rich American dirt first tilled by the founders – folks like the Stanley Brothers\, Flatt and Scruggs\, and Bill Monroe – and further shaped by the great second generation of bluegrass musicians. Continuing this tradition with reverence and creativity\, and playing this music as it’s meant to be played\, is the spirit that guides the County Fools each time they step up to the mic.

SUMMARY:Sunday Night Bluegrass featuring the Josh Cole Band at the Showdown
DESCRIPTION:Josh Cole has been playing bluegrass in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. It started in the late 90s\, when he first heard “Midnight Moonlight” from Old and In the Way. That moment forever bonded Josh to bluegrass music. He went on to serve as President of the Oregon Bluegrass Association and continues to host “Music From the True Vine” on KBOO-FM\, the longest running bluegrass show West of the Mississippi. Josh’s influences include Ralph Stanley\, Larry Sparks\, and Bill Monroe\, many of whom are featured on the Josh Cole Bluegrass Show\, his podcast with nearly 200 episodes of traditional bluegrass recordings. Josh has played in dozens of bands\, along with running his own hard-driving bluegrass band for nearly two decades. That’s why hometown fans have lovingly nicknamed him “The Elvis of Portland Bluegrass.” \nDoors 7 pm\, show 8 pm / 21+
