SUMMARY:Sunday Night Bluegrass featuring the Josh Cole Band at the Showdown
DESCRIPTION:Josh Cole has been playing bluegrass in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. It started in the late 90s\, when he first heard “Midnight Moonlight” from Old and In the Way. That moment forever bonded Josh to bluegrass music. He went on to serve as President of the Oregon Bluegrass Association and continues to host “Music From the True Vine” on KBOO-FM\, the longest running bluegrass show West of the Mississippi. Josh’s influences include Ralph Stanley\, Larry Sparks\, and Bill Monroe\, many of whom are featured on the Josh Cole Bluegrass Show\, his podcast with nearly 200 episodes of traditional bluegrass recordings. Josh has played in dozens of bands\, along with running his own hard-driving bluegrass band for nearly two decades. That’s why hometown fans have lovingly nicknamed him “The Elvis of Portland Bluegrass.”

DESCRIPTION:Slipshod – Slipshod bring two talented musicians blending vocals and dynamic instrumentals back to the stage. Matt Snook\, master dobroist and banjoist\, joins the flat picking guitar and mandolin of Steve Blanchard to feature a wide variety of material\, original song and arrangements of familiar melodies. They bring a fun set to share their love and passion for the music with folks.  \nSawtooth and Sons – Two fathers and sons team together for great vocal harmonies and song instrumentals along with original songs. Sawtooth and Sons continues a style of Oregon Bluegrass developed by the original Sawtooth Mountain Boys from the Willamette Valley. Both Rollie Champe and Hal Spence were members since the 1960s and are still among Oregon’s finest bluegrass musicians. Both have sons\, Brette Champe and Andrew Spence\, that have developed into really great musicians as well. They carry on a tradition of families sharing music through generations.

DESCRIPTION:Thunder Ridge is a straight-ahead bluegrass band from Portland\, OR. The traditional five-piece band is made up of banjo\, guitar\, mandolin\, bass and fiddle. They will steal your heart with hard driving vocal harmonies and instrumentals. Allow them to take you down a path of yesteryear with a good old fashioned sound inspired by the masters of bluegrass\, and sprinkled with a few originals! \nIf you were to bump into a member of the County Fools in the real world – walking the streets of Portland\, kicked back on a barstool\, or wandering in a hayfield – you might think to yourself “Hey\, these are some good timin’ guys. There’s not a serious thing about these fellas. They’re just foolin’ around!” But friend\, you’d soon come to realize that there is one thing that The Fools take very seriously:  the great tradition of Bluegrass music. The County Fools’ sound and sensibility is deeply rooted in that rich American dirt first tilled by the founders – folks like the Stanley Brothers\, Flatt and Scruggs\, and Bill Monroe – and further shaped by the great second generation of bluegrass musicians.  Continuing this tradition with reverence and creativity\, and playing this music as it’s meant to be played\, is the spirit that guides the County Fools each time they step up to the mic.
