DESCRIPTION:What is BirdFest & Bluegrass?\nBirdFest and Bluegrass is the main event every year that the Friends & the City of Ridgefield put on to bring awareness to Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge\, and all that it has to offer. We celebrate the Sandhill Crane returning to the Refuge\, a huge stately bird that is endangered in Washington State\, and we celebrate everything the Refuge is and what it brings to the community. With endangered species\, hundreds of migratory species\, an auto tour route\, photo blind\, walking trails\, habitat restoration programs\, and so much more – there is a lot to celebrate\, and a lot to learn. \nWe are uniquely fortunate to have the Refuge as a resource right in our own backyard\, and by learning not only how to appreciate the beauty\, but the necessity of it\, you come one step closer to being able to support it. \nWhether you head downtown to jam with bluegrass bands\, shop\, or do crafts\, take a drive around the Refuge’s Auto Tour\, or head to the Carty Unit for family crafts\, guided hikes\, or a walk on the trail- there is something for everyone\, and lots to learn!

DESCRIPTION:Aoife O’Donovan is a Grammy-award winning singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music radiates with a timeless charm and contemporary allure beyond genre. Born in Newton\, Massachusetts\, Aoife (pronounced EE-fa) began her musical journey at a young age\, eventually blossoming into a celebrated artist known for her captivating vocals and heartfelt compositions. With a diverse range of influences\, including folk\, bluegrass\, and indie rock\, O’Donovan’s distinctive sound weaves together intricate melodies and introspective lyrics. She gained widespread recognition as a founding member of the progressive folk band Crooked Still and the folk trio I’m With Her (with bandmates Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz). \nHawktail is the acoustic instrumental trio of fiddler Brittany Haas\, bassist Paul Kowert\, and guitarist Jordan Tice. Though at first glance it looks like an acoustic super-picker side-project\, their all-original music is cohesive and unique\, distinguishing them as an ensemble with a sound built from the ground up. Flush with orchestral sweeps and sparse vigils\, with strains of the American South and the North Atlantic\, this cosmopolitan sound is not what you’d expect from a string band.

Their sound together captivates listeners through intricate and interactive dynamics between the banjo and the fiddle. They are individually recognized as leaders in the young generation of roots musicians\, de Groot being known for intricate clawhammer banjo work with Bruce Molsky\, and Hargreaves bringing powerhouse fiddling to the stage with Laurie Lewis and David Rawlings in addition to teaching bluegrass fiddle at UNC-Chapel Hill. The duo’s 2022 sophomore album\, Hurricane Clarice reflects history\, family\, literature\, live performance\, and environmental instability in the sounds\, feelings\, and sensations that permeate their music. The album won “Best Instrumental Group of the Year” and “Best Traditional Album of the Year” from the Canadian Folk Music Awards and also received a Juno nomination for “Traditional Roots Album of the Year.”

Sunny South is an experienced band\, both professional and comfortable on the stage. They put on a great show that audiences enjoy.
