American Banjo Camp
at Fort Flagler State Park, in Nordland, Washington.

Event goes from 09/10/2010 through 09/12/2010

The American Banjo Camp offers a weekend of intense instruction with some of the best old-time and bluegrass banjo players around, plus demonstrations, concerts, and plenty of jamming opportunities.

We now also offer a full-time Fiddle Program and an optional Extra Day beginning on Thursday evening Sept. 9 (for details, see below).

We're very proud to announce our well-traveled staff of all-stars.

Bluegrass Instructors:
Janet Davis (Arkansas) - Back-up guru Bill Keith (New York) - Creator of melodic style James McKinney (Georgia) - Virtuoso in both Scruggs & Single String Styles. Alan Munde (Texas) - Legendary picker and innovator Pete Wernick (Colorado) - Dr. Banjo!

Old-time Instructors:
Mac Benford (New York State) - Genial clawhammer innovator and great all-around teacher! Formerly banjoist for famed Highwoods String Band. Adam Hurt (North Carolina) - brilliant young clawhammer phenom & gifted teacher Bruce Molsky (Washington, DC) - internationally acclaimed banjoist & fiddler Ken Perlman (Indiana) - Pioneer of melodic clawhammer; author of several widely acclaimed clawhammer instruction manuals Molly Tennenbaum (Seattle) - Innovative & widely respected southern-style picker

Novice Program: Mike Stahlman from Portland heads up the bluegrass-novice program; Laura Smith of Bellingham heads up the old-time novice program.

Accompanists: Greg & Jere Canote (old-time fiddle and guitar), Paul Elliott (bluegrass fiddle), and Peter Langston (bluegrass guitar). All our accompanists are from the Seattle area.

Here are two additional announcements for 2010:

The ABC Fiddle Program. We continue to offer a full time fiddle program at ABC this year. Our principle fiddle instructor is Greg Canote; fiddle classes will also be offered by Paul Elliott, Adam Hurt, and Bruce Molsky.

The ABC Extra Day. Our Extra Day gives students a chance to get to know each other and the staff, and to ease their way into the regular Camp with a bunch of low pressure activities in a relaxed atmosphere. This year, one of the activities planned for Thursday evening is a student open mic, with staff accompanists available to offer support. Other options we're considering for Thursday include faculty led jams, Q & A sessions, and even a square dance. For Friday morning, we're planning round-robin demonstrations, "clinics" on banjo technique and set-up, and more Q & A sessions. There will be a small extra tuition charge for students who wish to take part in the Extra Day, which also covers the cost of lodging and meals (dinner on Thursday through lunch on Friday).

You can access artists' bios, logistical information, and registration form on our website below and If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to email us.

Alaska Bluegrass JAM Cruise
at Depart from Seattle, Washington.

Event goes from 09/11/2010 through 09/18/2010

The price of the cruise is 799$ inside cabin or 899$ ocean view cabin, per person double occupancy. This is the most reasonable cruise to Alaska around. Part of the reason is the time of year. There is no famous band going it is just a jam cruise. I went on the cruise to Mexico a few months ago and we jammed pretty much all the time, except when eating all the great food. We even jammed on Catalina and in Ensenada. Email Jerry Turner, the travelagent booking the jam rooms, at MRT@CRUISE2JAM.COM Tell him you saw it on the OBA website. --- contributed by Dan Martin

Set during the last weekend of September; when the weather is predictably pleasant the Upper Rogue's Premier Music Festival is continuing in the tradition of the 13 years of the Prospect Bluegrass Festival with loads of enhancements. Seven bands provide a combination of Folk, Bluegrass, Americana and Country music each day for your enjoyment. Seated on the lawn of the majestic Prospect Hotel grounds, surrounded by hundreds of spectacular trees you will hear each genre performed by delightful, multi-talented musicians from the Pacific Northwest.

For your listening pleasure we have rounded up:

Taryn Cross's delivery of contemporary country music is accented beautifully with her rich, sultry tones and subtle, traditional vocal stylings.

Jesse Woodside brings an intimate and honest voice to beautiful acoustic country folk melodies written on a sun-setting porch.

Smokey & Friends brings a firey fiddle to country and bluegrass.

Sequoia combines bluegrass, newgrass, folk, vintage & pop tunes into its acoustic blend. Jefferson's range is wide and varied with hard driving "groove" tunes and haunting ballads, but through it all their soul is their harmony.

The Bathtub Gin Serenaders present pre-war Hot Jazz and Blues from the 1920s + 30s or, 'a jug band without the jug'.

Eight Dollar Mountain rises from the Cascade-Siskiyou Mountain region of Southern Oregon and brings you fine string music from the long standing traditions of excellent bluegrass. There will be an open 'Jammin on the Veranda' Friday night for anyone who can carry a tune. Saturday Night's Barn Dance starts at 8:00pm

Calling by Denny Lantz of Lantzs Dantzers Square Dance Club

Each morning there will be the Famous Prospect Hotel Cinnamon Rolls and Coffee. Between sets you can partake in some of the best food around; Prospect Hotel's Signature Prime Rib in a French Dip sandwich with Jack Daniels aujus, Deep Fried Turkey legs with Karen's secret basting sauce keeping them succulent. Salads galore and more!

What better way to enjoy the food and music than with a local micro-beer from Southern Oregon Brewery, or local wines from Crater Lake Cellars.

You can listen to all this great music while perusing the beautiful handy work of an elite selection of local Artists and Craftsmen. Kim Ragsdale will present her renowned pen and ink work. Jim Kanitz of Horizons in Wood will display his beautiful wood work. Pastels from Genell Tuter, who grew up in Prospect. Upper Rogue artists Dorothy Dierks and Bob Faulkner will present their scenic paintings. Kate Kreisman of S&K Creations will have a wonderful collection of delightful hand made bird houses. Country Comforts of Prospect will display their all natural bath and body products. There are too many creative folks to list here.

While the bands take a break you can view beautiful hand made quilts presented on the Prospect Hotel veranda or watch as a hunk of wood transforms into art via the magic of chainsaw artist Kelly Hamilton.

Tickets for both days - $25, $28 with Dance Ticket, One day - $15, with the Dance - $18 Half Day -$10 (either day), Barn Dance only on Saturday Night - $5, Discounts for youths under 17 and for Prospect zipcode residents (proof required).
