Cross-eyed
Rosie started as a group of friends meeting and playing at our
favorite coffee haunt, the Ugly Mug in Sellwood, OR. After a
year of practicing, recording and gigging around the northwest
and filling up venues all over, Cross-eyed Rosie has really come
into its own light.
'A laid-back, homegrown group featuring two gals harmonizing
over gentle guit-mando-fiddle-bass
backdrop, Rosie's been drawing crowds to some of Puddletown's
more modest watering holes for the past several months with a
combination of traditional covers and faithful originals.'
Willamette Week, 9/3/03
Often dubbed 'blues-grass', this sextet has created a masterful
and beautiful recording that runs the gamut of original folk and
bluegrass to traditional gospel to an Appalachian fiddle medley.
"Lookin' Up", Rosie's first album, has just been released on
Uncle Ostrom Records and is in stores now.
'Cross-eyed Rosie merges bluegrass as soulful as anything heard
in the Appalachians with the power and spirit of Joan Baez. To
hear music this rousing and poignant anywhere else, youd have to
take a roadtrip to the mountains of east Tennessee.' David
Sharp, Portland journalist.
"The allure of CER is...layered. They are a bit like the dorky
wallflower in highschool who turns out to be really hot at the
reunion: you need to look past the surface to get it. At first
listen, its contemporary bluegrass. But do we detect a little
bit of folk thrown in? A pinch of jazz? Were not entirely sure
whats going on. But we do know the CD release party for their
new album "Lookin Up" will be the only one in town featuring a
fiddle and a mandolin. And there will be six very talented
people on stage for you to gawk at. So check it out, wallow in
the three-part harmonies, take in some completely original
tunes,
and leave your overalls at home." |
